Digital initiatives strategist at Pro-Media Communications, Michael has been a longtime believer in using emerging media for social change and an advocate for an array of social justice causes. Michael is passionate about harnessing the awesome power of interactive media and compelling story telling to move people’s hearts and minds.
Prior to Pro-Media, Michael completed a Master’s Degree at The New School’s Media Studies Department program, where he studied the critical role media plays in the democratic process. During this time, he helped launch the Religion, Faith & Values program at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, as the first Religion, Faith & Values fellow.
Midwest born and raised, Michael spent three years after graduating from Creighton University (B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication) as an editor for the Creston News Advertiser, a daily newspaper in Southwest Iowa. There, Michael was honored for his news writing, editorial writing and page design by The Associated Press and Iowa Newspaper Association.
Michael was first drawn to media during a six-month service-learning program in the Dominican Republic. Since then he has been passionate about helping people connect to their communities, improve lives and spur social change.
After nearly two years immersed in academia, Michael’s ideal night has transformed from a night out with friends to a night in with Foucault (and his other sociological heroes.) You can often find Michael hunkered down with a newspaper, toying with the latest social media tool, watching “Fox and Friends” to get his blood flowing, and taking in the city’s many sights and sounds.
